An Abundance of Amenities in Big Canoe

Big Canoe is an amenity-rich “resort” community with an unlimited range of activities for all ages. Annual individual, couple and family amenity memberships are available, or residents and guests may opt to pay a daily fee to use them. Amenities include: 27-hole championship golf course; the Racquet Club offers ten indoor and outdoor tennis courts, plus four pickleball courts; three spring-fed lakes provide fishing, swimming and peaceful boating and paddle-boarding; over 20 miles of hiking trails and bike paths; bocce ball; and a natural water slide.

Golf

Big Canoe is a golfer’s paradise! The challenging 27-hole Joe Lee championship golf course is set against a backdrop of breathtaking mountains and around 90-acre Lake Sconti. Golf carts are rented at the Club and are not allowed anywhere but the cart paths. The golf pro shop on the lower level of the Clubhouse is fully stocked with the latest equipment, clothing and performance gear. Individual and group lessons are available year-round for all skill levels. Duffers is next to the cart barn and serves food and beverages throughout the day.

The Big Canoe Racquet Club

The Racquet Club currently includes eight lighted outdoor courts with four Har-Tru clay courts, two Clay Tec all-weather courts and two hard courts. There are also two indoor courts in the Fitness Center for out-of-season play. Four pickleball courts have been added for this popular new sport.

Fitness Center

A 16,000-sf Fitness Center offers premier exercise equipment, an aquatic facility with a 25-meter indoor lap pool, a whirlpool and sauna. A racquetball/squash court and spacious glass-walled exercise classroom are in the Fitness facility. A huge assortment of daily group exercise and water aerobic classes are provided for free, and professional personal trainers and massage therapists provide services at reasonable rates. Physical therapy and rehabilitation services are available with prescriptions from medical providers.

Swim Club

An outdoor pool and sandy beach rimming the Lake Disharoon swimming lake, are steps away from the Fitness Center. An adult and a separate children’s pool are in the Wildcat Recreation Center near the North Gate. The swim club includes inflatable attractions, paddle boats, paddle boards and canoes, along with unlimited trips down a rock waterslide that empties into a natural emerald pool.

Wildcat Recreation Center

In addition to two swimming pools, the Wildcat Recreation Center offers basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, three Bocce’ courts, and a children’s playground. There is a lovely covered pavilion for group and family picnicking. The Recreation Center leads to miles of bike paths and walking and hiking trails that are scattered throughout the meadows and mountains and alongside babbling creeks and cascading waterfalls.

The Clubhouse at Lake Sconti
A fabulous $10 million dollar Clubhouse and pub restaurant with a breezy covered veranda offers a spectacular view of tranquil Lake Sconti and the surrounding mountains. A varied menu is served daily at the Black Bear Pub, and there is a specialty buffet each evening featuring entrees such as prime rib, seafood with pasta, a traditional Southern Buffet, steak specials and other delectables. On Sundays, a popular brunch buffet is served. A variety of free musical entertainment is scheduled most weekends on the Veranda. The Sconti Club is an enormously popular venue for weddings and other types of receptions and local organization dinners and functions.

The Terraces Amphitheater
A beautiful amphitheater under the stars called “The Terraces” keeps residents entertained in the summer and fall with top-rated concert performances and special events at a nominal ticket price. Big Canoers, young and old, love dancing on a circular marble stage to everything from rock ‘n roll and beach music to the sweet refrains of John Denver ballads.
